Two generations of eye examiners, in one room.
C. D. Sharma
- Previously
- Chief eye examiner, UP Government Health Services
Gandhi Eye Hospital, Aligarh - Here since
- 1990
He founded this practice in 1990 and has examined eyes in Noida ever since. He still sees patients here.
Before that he was chief eye examiner for the Uttar Pradesh Government Health Services, and worked at Gandhi Eye Hospital, Aligarh.
Gandhi is one of the oldest dedicated eye hospitals in the country. For decades it was where western Uttar Pradesh went when the local optician could not help.

He qualified first with a two-year Diploma in Optometry from the Uttar Pradesh State Medical Faculty, Lucknow, in 2011, and went on to a Masters in Clinical Optometry. He worked as an optometrist at AIIMS Delhi and at Sharp Sight, Delhi before joining the practice.
He completed the Bausch & Lomb Mastermind programme at Amity University, Gurgaon, in 2013, and attended the 53rd Foundation Day Congress of the Ophthalmic Research Association as a delegate, at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS New Delhi, in March 2020.
Hospital optometry is a different job from shop optometry. It means having worked in a clinic that sees the difficult cases — knowing early what a serious condition looks like, and which of them cannot wait.

Why this matters when something is wrong
Most visits here end with a prescription and a pair of spectacles. Some do not.
When an eye needs a hospital rather than a shop, what matters is knowing where to send you, and how quickly.
A hospital background is what makes that possible, and almost nobody here knows about it until they need it.
Four separate reviewers have mentioned the AIIMS connection without being asked. Every one of them found out about it in conversation, at the counter, after they had already come in for something else.
I got my father's cataract surgery done at AIIMS with the help of Dr Krishant. He is really helpful.
